This is a recent wedding with two lovely people, Kevin and Charlie. They were married at St Mary's Church in Andover and then to The Quality Hotel also in Andover for their reception on the 12th April 2008.
As you can see below we experienced a heavy down pour as the bridesmaids and the bride arrived at the church. But it did not matter. The mood and the excitment was fantastic and the expressions on their faces say it all.

St Mary's in Andover is a beautiful church. There is a balcany where we can get some great shots of the service.

And here is the church from the outside.

The Quality Hotel offers us some great locations for the photographs.

And these images were taken in the lane beside the hotel.

Here are a few taken in the grounds.

At the end of December, I was fortunate enough to be invited to photograph a wedding in Scotland.
It was a fairly small, intimate affair in a quaint hotel on the shores of Loch Tay, about one and a half-hours north of Edinburgh. The couple are from Hampshire, but got engaged at this beautiful location in Scotland and decided that it was the perfect place for their wedding.
The wedding was on Sunday, so I decided we would travel up by car on the Friday. We had arranged to meet up with Wendi and Miles, my bride and groom, on the Saturday to go over the wedding plans and to take a few relaxed portraits on the shores of Loch Tay. It would also give me the opportunity to look around the area and to do some landscape photography, which I really enjoy doing, but rarely get the time.

Sunday arrived and we took a leisurely drive from our own hotel along the coastal road of Loch Tay to the wedding venue. It was a beautiful bright day, although the sun was a little too low to peep over the surrounding hills, as I would have wished. However, we snapped away at a few more landscapes.

The hotel was beautiful (www.ardeonaighotel.co.uk), a small ‘oldie-worldie’ hotel set back from the loch. It was not a large wedding – we’re only talking about 35 guests – and all stayed at the hotel in various rooms that were snug, all with individual character and that lead out into a pretty courtyard garden.
We arrived to photograph Myles and his groomsmen, both inside and out in the hotel grounds.

Then we went up to take some shots of Wendi getting prepared and some soft bridal portraits.

The ceremony was in the Library Room in the hotel and made a cosy and intimate setting for a very romantic ceremony.

I don’t like to disrupt the natural flow of a wedding day, so I enjoyed taking these informal family photos in the hotel courtyard.

We did sneak off for a few minutes to take some romantic shots of the couple with the dramatic scenery of the Loch and mountains beyond.

We were invited to join everyone for the superb wedding breakfast. The owners of the hotel are South African and brought a taste of their homeland to both the lovely meal and to the wedding cake too.

The bottom tier was made with a chocolate brownie style cake and the top was a delicious cheesecake. I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings in my time, but never come across anything like this before – truly unique.

The evening was informal and very relaxed. We did some more romantic photos around the hotel and in the honeymoon suite.

After a long day, we drove back to our hotel, looking forward to the long drive home in the morning – not!

A Real Life Wedding at Oakley Hall |
“Phil captured the magic and romance of our amazing day, and Alison at her most beautiful - as my fabulous fairytale bride.”
Alison Day and Kieran Walker married in Worting and held their reception at Oakley Hall in Basingstoke.
With one look at Phil’s website the couple knew instantly that they had found the natural, relaxed and fun style of photography they wanted for their special day. “We were looking for a contemporary way of capturing the day as well as a few informal group shots.” says Alison. “I was desperate to book Phil straight away before someone else snapped him up for our big day, but he sensibly insisted that we looked at a range of other photographers before we made our final decision. Nothing matched the standard of Phil’s work. Phil’s passion and creativity together with his informal style and sense of fun really appealed to Kieran” says Alison.
“simply stunning”
“He showed us lots of complete weddings, not just a selection of his best images, and some from our chosen wedding venue, so we were confident our photos would be just as amazing. Phil’s unique combination of beautiful reportage and classical wedding photography with a selection of shots in both black and white and colour were simply stunning.”
“What’s more,” Kieran adds, “ Phil listened carefully to our ideas. He made us feel really important and I’ve never felt so relaxed about having my photo taken.”
“our very own wedding planner”
Phil was always at the end of the phone and happy for us to call him at anytime if we needed advice about anything to do with our wedding. He helped us to plan the details of our day from the timings to putting on button holes properly – our very own wedding planner. Nothing was too much trouble.”
“a real sense of romance”
“On the day, Phil had a natural rapport with our guests, and was able to catch real emotions and expressions - rather than stiff smiles. He captured each special moment, and created a real sense of romance and natural beauty in our photos”, says Alison. “He is also very efficient and works quickly so no one was stood around waiting for ages.”
Kieran was impressed with having two fully qualified photographers for the whole day. “They photographed me and then Alison getting ready at each of our homes; they were with us before Alison arrived at the church; through the reception speeches and into the evening until after our first dance — all the time without tiring us or imposing on our guests - Phil gently guiding us through the day.”
“a lot of fun ”
Alison laughs, “When we returned from our honeymoon, Phil treated us to a slide show of all the photos taken on the day set to music instead of an edited set of small preview pictures. It was so romantic and brought back all the emotion of the day —so much so that I cried!
Phil’s photos were terrific and we had great difficulty in making our final selection from the hundreds of fantastic pictures we had to choose from. Phil gave us plenty of time without putting us under any pressure and used his expertise and patience to help us make the best decision.
“a unique treasure”
We certainly couldn’t be more pleased with our choice of photographer. Phil made having our pictures taken a lot of fun. He also ensured that our wedding day flowed smoothly and we now have a stunning and unique storybook album of our special day which we will treasure forever ...

A Real Life Wedding at The Elvetham |
“Most of all,” adds Derek, “is that Phil captured Eleanor at her absolute best – as the stunningly beautiful bride.”
Eleanor Vander Meersch and Derek Brander married in Brentford and held their reception at the Elvetham Hotel, Hampshire.
The couple decided they had found the informal relaxed photography style they wanted when they first browsed Phil’s web site, “We were looking for a contemporary way of capturing the day as well as a few informal group shots. I wanted to book Phil straight away, but he suggested we meet him before we decided. Phil is very creative and passionate about his work and his informal style really appealed to Derek” says Eleanor. “He showed us some beautiful reportage photography with a selection of black and white and colour shots”
“free pre-wedding shoot”
Eleanor and Derek arranged their pre-wedding shoot at their wedding venue and found it a great way of getting used to being photographed and an opportunity to try out different places in the grounds to take their wedding pictures. “We also came up with a wet weather plan – just in case!” Eleanor adds.
“a real sense of romance”
“On the day, Phil had a natural rapport with our guests, and was able to catch the emotions in their expressions - something I think a less experienced photographer would struggle to do. He captured each special moment, which created a real sense of romance and natural beauty in our photos”, says Eleanor. “He is also very efficient and works quickly so we didn’t have to hang around for hours having our photos taken.”
Derek was impressed with Phil’s attention to lighting and unique sense of composition. He describes Phil and his assistant as tireless: “They photographed Eleanor getting ready at home and were with us through the speeches and into the evening until after our first dance — all the time without tiring us or imposing".
“an enjoyable experience”
Eleanor laughs, “I loved all of Phil’s photos and we had great difficulty in making our final selection from the hundreds of fantastic pictures we had to choose from. Phil gave us plenty of time without putting us under any pressure and used his expertise and patience to help us make the best decision. We certainly couldn’t be more pleased with our choice of photographer. Phil made having our pictures taken an enjoyable experience – we just couldn’t stop laughing all day! He actually helped to make our wedding run smoothly, as well as leaving us with a beautiful record of our wonderful day.
