Weddings
As a wedding photographer, I consider it a real privilege to be invited to share a couple’s special day. I photograph weddings because they are my passion. I love photographing weddings, capturing the romance and the joy. Indeed, I see myself sometimes as a sort of professional guest: I’m part of the action in much the same way - have a camera, like most guests - but just happen to be there to capture the right moments and expressions at the right time.

I enjoy talking to people and having a laugh with them and maybe this is why I get such relaxed and natural images. If I enjoy something, I get emotionally attached to it, and I think I photograph it better.  For me, weddings are very personal. It’s as much about liking each other and having a good rapport as it is about the photography. That’s why I meet my couples several times before their wedding and even try out some ideas to get them more relaxed and used to the camera. I treat everyone as individuals and match my photography to them – some want natural unobtrusive photos, while others are happy to play. This also means that every set of wedding photos are different, and all my couples end up with a unique and stunning reminder of their special day.

And me? Well I’ve been taking wedding photos since my late teens; and I’m considerably older now! Although I’m a digital photographer, because I like the freedom and creativity it allows me, I started in the era of film, before the advent of autofocus and autoexposure and all those gizmos. To me, taking photos is as natural as walking or breathing, so failure is a non-issue. Consequently I’m relaxed at weddings, and confident that no matter what happens, I’ll come back with some fantastic, original images. Indeed, I’m proud to be the UK’s very first qualified Master Craftsman with the Guild of Wedding Photographers and to have been invited to photograph weddings as far afield as the Highlands of Scotland. So if you’re considering getting married abroad, I’d be delighted to be given the opportunity to travel with you.
